The Bridge Wrocław Mgallery Hotel Collection
Wrocławski Ostrów Tumski
OUT OF RESPECT FOR HISTORY
“The design of the hotel grew out of the site where we were to build it,” says Michał Goncerzewicz from Forum Architekci company.
“We expressed our respect for the work of the builders of this oldest
part of the city by complementing the buildings in a restrained and
unobtrusive way, using naturally sourced materials and constructing
the building in accordance with traditional principles of architectural
arrangement, but not escaping the truth of the present
times. We were looking for a background architecture that honestly
communicates its hotel function and contemporary provenance.
“Architecture doesn’t end with the exterior of a building and we
knew that we wanted to transfer this remarkable neighbourhood
into the interiors, as well. That is why, the functional disposition of
the hotel was built to fully utilize the exceptional panoramic views
of Ostrów Tumski and Wrocław, which vastly contribute to the hotel’s
character.”
We are particularly interested in the search for interaction of
the buildings we design with the nearest neighbourhood; “this is why, this hotel opens up to the city and its inhabitants with a transparent enclosure of public spaces, a public garden, and a restaurant with a dedicated entrance for non-hotel guests,” adds Goncerzewicz.
The task of the architects who designed The Bridge Wrocław
MGallery was to close the stage of evolution of Ostrów Tumski, which
began with filling in one of the Oder’s tributaries in the early 19th century.
